Close to the end of the retrofit
The actual seismic retrofit is complete, now we just have to return the lower level to habitable condition. Tomorrow the contractors will arrive for the final push, which includes returning the trim and electrical fixtures in the unit (how they are going to put the light cans back in the ceiling is a mystery to me) and they have to install the new space heater. In the laundry room they have to get the floor to drain properly and then hook up the washer and dryer. Then they have to remove all their debris and the stuff they put down to protect the floors both in the unit and in the hall -- I'm hoping to get some scrap plywood for a couple projects, but if I don't that's fine too.
I already did my bit today by prepping and painting the ceiling and wall in the laundry where there is new Sheetrock. It actually looks okay -- which is all we need in that space. The problem turned out to be that the area to be painted (with a roller) was too small for the start to dry by the time I reached the end. I switched to brushing and when that was done the areas that needed a second roller coat were almost dry. Fortunately, it's a flat finish so it worked out in the end. I even got a can of spray primer to cover a could places that were impossible to roll or brush, and, I think I can use the spray primer to finish that brick foundation wall I've never been happy with.
I'm tired but happy. Tomorrow is going to be another long day.
