14. Turnbuckles

Previous - 13. Architecture walk

Goldilocks at the hardware store

I need to pull this eight foot tall post into a vertical position next to my building -- it is currently leaning about a foot to the side. I hit on the idea of using a turnbuckle to force it into position and tried it with a small turnbuckle I had. It worked, but only moved the post an inch or so. Then I got the biggest turnbuckle the local hardware store had -- it was quite impressive, but turned out to be too big. So I've traded that one in for one about half the size. I'm hoping this one will be just right, but we'll see when I get home. I may actually need the original, too small one, to pull the post into final position where I will then strap it in place. If I can cut the metal strap.

My dream is to live above or next door to a really good hardware store so I don't have to walk six to seven blocks (each way) every time I need something. (Every time I get the wrong thing.)

If I get this to work there will be a photo!

Later

It did work -- well enough. The post is strapped to the corner of the building and, as soon as I get a good photo, I will remove the big turnbuckle and see how my work holds up. I am not dragging the ladder down there again so it will either work or not. The photo will be posted below as soon as I get a good one.

Postscript
